Your progress and devices
What happens to my progress if I delete the app?
Your streaks, badges, frames, best times and stats are saved only on your device. If you delete Sumzoo, they're deleted too, and they can't be recovered.
Your nickname and leaderboard times are stored on our servers. If you reinstall Sumzoo on the same iPhone or iPad, you can usually get your nickname back by typing it again, but your other progress starts fresh.
To keep your progress, don't delete the app. Updating it is always safe: updates never remove your progress.
What happens if I get a new phone?
If you move to your new iPhone using an iCloud backup or Apple's iPhone-to-iPhone transfer, your Sumzoo progress usually comes with it.
If you set up the new phone without a backup, Sumzoo starts fresh: your old streaks, badges and best times stay on the old phone, and you'll need to choose a new nickname.
Can I play on my iPhone and iPad with the same progress?
Not yet. Each device is a separate player, with its own nickname, streak, badges and leaderboard times. Your iPad can't use the same nickname as your iPhone, because each name belongs to one player.
Do I need an account?
No. Sumzoo creates an anonymous player for you automatically. You just choose a nickname. We never ask for your email, phone number or real name. Because there's no account, there's no way to sign in and restore progress on another device.
Names
What names can I use?
Names can be 2 to 20 characters: letters, numbers (up to 3) and spaces. Every name must be unique, ignoring capital letters and spaces, so "CaptainZed" and "Captain Zed" count as the same name.
Some names aren't allowed, such as rude words or names like "Admin" or "Sumzoo". Please make up a name: don't use your real name.
How do I change my name?
Go to Me → Change name. You can change it as often as you like during your first 24 hours. After that, you can change it once every 30 days.
When you change your name, your old one is kept for you for 30 days, so nobody else can take it and pretend to be you.
Why was my name hidden?
If several players report a name as rude or hurtful, it's hidden on all leaderboards and can't be used again. You'll see a message in the app, and you can choose a new name right away. Your games won't appear on leaderboards until you do.
If you think your name was hidden by mistake, contact us.
How do I report a rude name?
On the leaderboard, tap the flag next to the player's name and confirm. The name is hidden for you straight away. Names reported by several players are hidden for everyone, and we review reports regularly.
Reported someone by mistake? Tap Undo on the message that appears, or tap the hidden name on the leaderboard later and choose Undo report.
Playing
How is my time measured?
- The clock starts after the "3, 2, 1, Go!" countdown.
- It pauses during the quick green flash after each correct answer, so celebrations don't cost you time.
- A wrong answer gives a little shake and a half-second pause before you can try again.
How do stars work?
Stars count answers you got right first time: 3 stars for 90% or more, 2 stars for 70% or more, and 1 star otherwise.
Why didn't my time count as a best or on the leaderboard?
A round only counts when at least 70% of answers are right first time (7 of 10, or 14 of 20). This keeps leaderboards fair, so tapping randomly doesn't pay off. The round still counts for your streak.
Other reasons a game may not reach the leaderboard:
- You were offline. You'll see "Offline: not on the leaderboard" during the round.
- Your name was hidden after reports, and you haven't chosen a new one yet.
- The round looked impossible, for example answered faster than a person could.
How do streaks work?
Play any challenge at least once a day to grow your streak. Days follow your own time zone, so they change at your midnight. Miss a day and your streak starts again from 1. Longer streaks unlock frames: bronze at 3 days, silver at 7 and gold at 30.
Leaderboards
How do leaderboards work?
Each challenge has its own leaderboards for 10 and 20 questions, for today, this week and this month. Your best time in each period is what counts.
- Today's board starts fresh at your midnight.
- Weekly boards start on Monday, and monthly boards on the 1st.
- Every result is checked on our servers before it's added.
Why did a badge like "Top 10" or "Daily winner" not unlock?
Leaderboard badges only count on boards with at least 5 players, and "Top 10" needs more than 10 players. Being first on your own doesn't count.
Privacy and safety
What information does Sumzoo collect?
Only what the game needs: a random player ID, your nickname, your game results, and any reports or feedback you send. We don't collect your name, email, phone number, location or contacts. Read the full Privacy Policy.
How do I delete my data?
Go to Me → Delete my data. This permanently deletes your nickname, leaderboard times, feedback and player ID from our servers, and clears the app on your device. It can't be undone.
Deleting the app on its own doesn't remove your nickname or leaderboard times from our servers. Use Delete my data first if you want those removed.
Is Sumzoo OK for children?
Sumzoo is designed for all ages. There's no chat and no way to message other players. Players only see each other's nicknames and times. Names are filtered for rude words and can be reported, and we ask everyone not to use real names. Parents can delete a child's data at any time from Me → Delete my data.
Does Sumzoo cost anything?
Sumzoo is free to download and play.
